Not aware if NZ or SA have their own 'Super Rugby Player of the Year' awards?
Or maybe a topic for a thread here on PR

Fair play, he's a class act.
Despite the conference results, Australia can still cobble together a very good 22. I expect the All Blacks to beat them but you others should watch out :)

Not sure if you are stiring? There will be a tussle between Argentina and South Africa to win the wooden spoon. Saffa's always do well in Super rugby but normally finish bottom of Tri Nations same year.
I'm not a betting man, but I'm not stupid, I'll take that bet from you.
What you have seen is Aus Super rugby are the teams limping through the year. Play the Reds v Sharks game again with Cooper in and not losing a 10 and hooker after 20 mins and Giena moving out of position, then there would be not shock result. Even as it was if the South African Ref from Durban had of allowed the Gill try the result could have been different.
Aus had a shock defeat to Scotland (with a 3/4 string side on a Tuesday after S15 on Sat) and a 3 series win over the best from the NH with a 2nd string side. Aus are still struggling to get key players fit for first game of RC. Aus had a Shock defeat to Samoa last year and went on to win Tri Nations !

@markpat, you people only ever open your mouths when it's safe to put the boot in 'FACT' another armchair critic who only looks five inches from what is in front of their face, also such short memories people have, every season can't be a blinder or brilliant, even NZ super rugby teams have leaner years sometimes as do the Saffers, OK mate lets see who comes 4th in the Rugby Championship no match is ever over until it is played! "Arrogant Toss.."

@ Bones7 - thank you, my good man.
And does anyone else remember a certain English 2nd row fumbling an almost certain try in the RWC final in 2003? I bloody do!

i like higginbotham but only on super rugby level, he hasn't proven himself at international level, hasn't even cemented a starting spot.

Genia was a shoein really. No one else was putting their hand up.

Hear hear APV1! Can't have these rogue antipodeans corrupting both our language and our rugby. Genia was good in all fairness but I thought Higginbotham was superb throughout. He has the most well-rounded skill set of any back rower in Super Rugby I think which is made all the more impressive when you factor in his size, fitness, agility and physicality. All too often over the past few years rugby fans have been shouting at their TVs because some oaf with hands like a digital clock has fired the last pass into the stands or fumbled a pick and go from 5 metres out so to be able to watch Higginbotham jinking past defenders and linking with backs like a proper 8 is a welcome sight!

@APV1, I'm actually thinking of putting a bet on Australia finishing 4th, I've been so unimpressed with what I've seen.
How anyone, even with a huge Australian bias, can say "there was certainly a great deal shown by a number of the Australian franchises that they will provide big threats in 2013" is beyond me. The onyl big threats they pose is sending all the spectators to sleep.
Normally I like watching Australia play, but the current teams, both internation and super rugby have been pathetic. And that's coming from someone who routinely puts up with England, Scotland and Ireland playing very uninspiring rughby (to say the least!).

2EyedKiwi - points awarded after each match 3-2-1. "Halfback Genia polled three votes in the last round of the season to finish on 18, one point ahead of teammate and flanker Higginbotham, Western Force captain David Pocock and Brumbies five-eighth Christian Lealiifano, who missed a significant portion of the season through injury."
Genia was 5th after Round 16, got good points in the last matches.

@ georgesmith - are you 13 years old? Can you not even make an attempt at writing in English? This isn't txtng ur m8s, this is a public forum. Have some thought about your audience - the key to communication is what is received, not what is sent.
And, having deciphered your txt spk, it appears that you actually have some sensible opinions, it's just a shame that they're difficult to interpret.
With regards to your 4N team, it's probably about there. I'd have Barnes ahead of Cooper and Beale might well be in prison. I'd start Ioane and I think JOC's injured, but otherwise it's a pretty good team. They'll come 3rd, of course, but still it's the best they can put out.
How many "world class" players are there amongst that lot? Genia. Ioane. Pocock. Beale. Higginbottom. That's about it.

there were another awards not mentioned here:
Australian Super Rugby Rookie of the Year went to Joseph Tomane (Brumbies)
Australian Try of the Year - Reds, for a team effort v Rebels, scored by winger Dom Shipperley.
Referee of The Year: Steve Walsh
