Richie McCaw: Raring to go

All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw is by no means guaranteed to start on the openside flank for the Crusaders as he returns from injury to face the Sharks in Saturday's Super Rugby semi-final in Christchurch.

McCaw has not played since fracturing a rib in the Test series against England and still needs to prove his fitness.

The veteran flanker featured in training on Monday but assistant coach Tabai Matson says they have yet to determine what role he will play this weekend.

It is likely that McCaw will switch to the blindside flank, if he starts at all, with Matt Todd's fine form at openside difficult to overlook. That means Jordan Taufua could drop to the bench.

"[McCaw] missed out on one of the key trainings last week," Matson told Stuff.co.nz.

"We had an internal trial on Friday. So how he gets through this morning will determine whether he'll be fully available for selection which we'll be going through tonight (Monday)."

"We have learned in the past that it is fine to be available to play, but we need people who are ready to go and be 100 miles an hour and not kind of building into the game,'' said Matson.

''It will really be determined by how he feels over the next 24 to 48 hours.''
