Chiefs boss Dave Rennie has made several changes to his starting XV for Friday's clash with the Highlanders in Dunedin.
Big outside centre Robbie Fruean returns to action, from heart surgery, and will partner Bundee Aki in midfield. Scrum-half Augustine Pulu also makes his Super Rugby come-back after a recent knee procedure.
Both Fruean and Pulu have already experienced some club rugby before making their return this Friday.
Gareth Anscombe starts at full-back with Tevita Koloamatangi, Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Tim Nanai-Williams and James Lowe new additions to the bench.
Next week the Chiefs will return home to play the Hurricanes in another New Zealand Derby fixture at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton on Friday July 4.
