Pity , he has impressed in the last 2-3 years and showed versatality. Remember seeing him play Super Rugby on TV and wondered why he was not a MIB ? Same year he was in the squad and then injuries have since limited the number of appearances.

The problem in NZ is that there are very good players fighting it out for a place in the 30. Unless a players is unique, it is very difficult to get into the team from a long term injury. Even with Kahui injured there are guys like Ranger, Fruen, Crotty, et al who are not even in the training group, but considered good enough for any other international team. When Ma'a Nonu cannot get a bench spot , says a lot about the AB strength.

The number of injured guys can make up a team themselves easily :)

Also, each year at least 2-3 boys come into the mix from the Under 20 championships. This never ending production line limits the chances of many good players. Look at Waldrom who was considered a high performer in the 3rd test for England , but as far as I know was never in AB training group.
