Hahahaha, and Ashton went thru all that tantrum at Saints to go and work with Farrell. Love it.

@APV1 - Is Headhunter about this afternoon..?

Certainly am, if he has resigned of his own volition and then subsequently finds another job on his own. His old employer would normally have no grounds that I can see to ask for compensation from the new employer. Usual restrictive covenants would still apply but unlikely in the coaching world. If you notice the Gloucester sabre rattling at Sale seems to have disappeared.

The key piece is if the old employer could find proof of enticement or culpability from the new employer they might be able to try and claim loss of revenue. At which point we need a lawyer on the forum to give their opinion as thats beyond my experience.

Personally I hope SL brings him into the set up with the others.... kind of a 3 become 4... thats a bit Spice Girls.

The other radical thought is that he is going to join Shaun Edwards in Wales... given the RFU's past performance you wouldn't bet against it.

Excuse me NH Saints but the majority of Saracens boring backline are Englands boring backline. But as defence coach thats where these ex RL guys really shine, that and a no nonsense approach. There's a work ethic in RL which didn't exist in RU (It's improving), mind you the Welsh still have the best one.

@ Bones7 Every team have there off-days but during the important games the french defence was the key. Just look at some of biggest up sets in world rugby? have come from the freach and there defence? 2007 world cup new zealand? and last year world cup it was the defence alone that got them to the final and almost winning it.

i just feel England need a specialist defence coach and his the man for me.

ArmchairGeneral says...

I'd say it's because he wants to be a father coach and that means traveling with Owen not staying home with Sarries.

Well this is really a suprise, dont know why his decide to quit as he was cbvisously happy at Saracens .Will he now become Englands backs coach in the aurtum??or will it be the 4 wise men as some are hoping.,and can you have 2 backs coaches as he isnt really a specialist defence coach like D.Ellis

NHsaints says...

I'd say it's more likely he left because of Sarries boring backline...no backs coach wants to work with a backline as uninspiring as saracens, especially not one who has shown he's top class...with two more years left of that he probably decided he was better off elsewhere...

I too am a big fan of Catt, and have stated as much many times. I do believe that the 3 wise men could very successfully become 4, as described by others.

I am a little confused by the article's statement: "...the Rugby Football Union now face a potentially large compensation bill as Farrell still has two years remaining on his current Saracens contract.", considering it is preceded by, "Sarries revealed that Farrell quit on Thursday."

Did he quit, in which case what has the RFU got to do with it. If I'm under contract and decide to quit before the end, my next employer has nothing to do with it. Any ideas? Is Headhunter about this afternoon..?

@ hydarnes09, loads of people mention Ellis but France's defence was absolutely abysmal at times under his watch. Whether it was his methods or the players not being bothered as they are wont to do I don't know.

a bit out of left field considering the rhetoric surrounding his refusal of the England job. Nothing to do with any overreaction to Sarrie's domestic failure I trust (by that I mean their failure to retain the title).

Still holding out for Catt making a move to Bath so my opinions as to who should coach England are probably not "quasi-judicial".

Farrell defence?! Haha....he cant do defence!

Dave ellis? former french defence coach also worked with mike catt at london irish get him to SA now!

if catt does well as the attack coach in SA then Lancaster couldn't ignore the sucess. would have to look to go for the four of them.

ArmchairGeneral says...

Farrell will be going, just to hang out and advise and motivate but Catt will remain backs coach I guess. Good news if only to get best out of Owen and mentor them all with positivity in extremely hostile territory.

ArmchairGeneral

Lancaster may have changed his mind on the rule of three. Maybe after the Baa Baas game he though England needed a specialist defence coach. For me, this is the way forwards.

My gut says that having Catt involved is better than Farrell. Having both IMO is best as you can then have:

Head

Forwards

Attack

Defense

The only thing missing is a kicking coach (hopefully Catt will impart the 'when not to kick').
