Action from Newcastle Falcons versus Brive

Scrappy game: Kingston Park

A 74th minute penalty from Thomas Laranjeira saw Brive come from behind to defeat Newcastle 9-7 in Thursday's Challenge Cup clash.

The winner of this game was always going to put one foot into the knockouts and after a scrappy meeting it was ultimately the French who were celebrating at full-time thanks to Laranjeira's boot.

Newcastle, despite trailing 3-0 on 33 minutes, were ahead for the majority of the match but couldn't shrug off their visitors to Kingston Park.

It cost them as Laranjeira stepped up with six minutes remaining to nudge his side 9-7 in front, which was how it stayed in a dismal 80 minutes.

Stade Français 31-3 Cavalieri Prato

Stade Français put one foot in the knockout stages after a late try from second-row Anton van Zyl saw them claim a bonus-point victory over Cavalieri Prato at Stade Jean Bouin.

Due to a better record against rivals London Irish from their two meetings in the Challenge Cup, the Paris side came into the fixture just ahead of the Aviva Premiership outfit.

And after beating the Italians thanks to tries from Djibril Camara, Romain Frou, Richard Kingi and Van Zyl, they now go five points up ahead of London Irish hosting Lusitanos.
