I can't agree with the NZ system of promotion due to the money in the Prem. Basically you're asking a team on a Championship budget to beat a team on a Premiership budget and all that would happen is that probably 8 out of 10 times (at least) the Prem team would win and the same teams would stay in the Prem . The team coming up from the Championship often make most of their best signings after promotion is confirmed.

I have to say, its about time Newcastle went down anyway. They've been in amongst the relegation scrap for about 5 or 6 years in a row now. In a way i admire their transfer policy of signing young players from local lower division clubs but its just not condusive to success. At one time most of the England backline played for Newcastle- Wilkinson, Flood, Tait, Noon as well as other decent players such as Stephenson, Walder, Clegg, Miller, May, Burke, Hayman, and Vyvian. They really should have built on that to become a very good side. Instead they allowed them all to leave without really replacing them. They got away with it for a while because of the quality coming through the youth ranks, but that doesn't seem to be happening as much anymore. And at the end of each season someone at the club always releases a statement about how dissappointed they are to have finished 10th or whatever it was that season. Makes me laugh to be honest. What also makes me scratch my head is how any new signing, or current player signing a new deal, always states the clubs progressive nature and ambition as a main reason for signing. I always think yea right- a club with a small stadium, tiny support and a team which has spent the past 15 or so years getting steadily worse year on year.

As a life long Wasps fan, even though I played at one time for Richmond I am so relieved we avoided the drop. Not the best match today and I feel really sorry for Newcastle.

Glad of that, gold deserved a win from his team but his team didn't deserve to stay up and wasps sure as hell don't deserve to go down...only one thing to say now...C'MON BRISTOL

Don't know why they have to wait for their fate. One team goes down, and one goes up, shouldn't be about whether the winners of Division 2 don't quite have the right stadium therefore Newcastle can stay up. They have struggled for how many years at the top. Best to go down, stop worrying about the struggle to stay up, rebuild properly and come back like others have done.
