Relishing the challenge: Billy Twelvetrees

Gloucester centre Billy Twelvetrees has welcomed the news of Sam Burgess' switch from rugby league to rugby union.

Burgess will quit South Sydney Rabbitohs to join the Cherry and Whites' fierce rivals Bath in October and he has been earmarked a potential inside centre for England at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

That is the position which Twelvetrees has established himself in for England but the Gloucester stand-in skipper welcomed the potential challenge from Burgess.

"You relish every opportunity as a player, there are class centres all across the Premiership; there's competition everywhere," he told the Gloucester Citizen.

"But Sam's a hell of a player and all of his brothers are. He puts in some great hits and you can tell he's a smart player who will definitely be suited to the rugby union code.

"He showed his quality in the Rugby League World Cup and it's a great opportunity for him and for England.

"I quite enjoy watching league and I'm fully aware of who he is and what he does. He's a massive character in league and you look up to people like that.

"A lot of players coming from league have done incredibly well, they have different skills. Kyle Eastmond is extremely talented and has done very well at Bath."
