Rape is a very serious matter.... and a women, no matter what circumstances she may find herself in, has the right to say no to having sex,,,, The comments here - prejudging / guessing / speculating as what actually may have happened are completely unhelpful and indeed very unwelcome.
An allegation of rape should always be fully investigated by the proper authorities - and only after such investigation has taken place can any proper conclusions be drawn.

Wouldn't it be better to let the police do their job investigate it and either dismiss it or prosecute the matter. Comments at this stage are not helpful to either the girl or the players. No charges have yet been laid and we are not privy to the facts. Comments about either side of the situation are presumptive offensive and obnoxious. Can I suggest it is left until the full facts emerge..

Erm.... this particular article doesn't give half the info I read in the local paper this morning. If you guys want to know what really happened dont expect to read it on a rugby site, duh

They say that charges are pressed in less than 20% of all cases and a guilty verdict found in less than 5% of all incidents, the disturbing thing is the majority go unreported. Obviously this is not good. Given the basic facts being reported from SA so far, I believe this case will be dropped. Basic facts, the alleged victim cannot remember anything, the fact she turned up to the hotel of her own free will and lied to hotel staff about who she was visiting, she has only cried foul play since her parents forced her hand.. and since this time her story has gone from being gang raped to only accusing one person. Obviously sincerely hope the accused is punished if indeed guilty but too often popular young men (such as rugby players) are propositioned by women who then cry foul the next day... from a young mans point of view, the only thing worse than rape itself is being accused of rape. Let's hope the truth comes out.

@ Jaystarr
Reading your post made me feel sick,.. I'm guessing you don't have any daughters. Despite the fact that this particular case might or might not end resulting in charges, the undercurrent of you post and indeed others on thread suggests that if a woman finds herself in a situation she perhaps cannot handle,.. or is just too drunk to do anything about it, it's her fault if something happens, and that a man has the right to do whatever he wants.
This is a police matter,. NOTHING is clear,... and every poster on here who jumps to the defence of the players with a little side note "if it turns out to be true",... need to look in a mirror,.. WHY POST????
And for the record JayStarr, .. from what I see in my job,.. there are in fact, WAY too many unreported rapes.

These are by a long way the most repugnant and offensive comments I have ever seen on this forum.
"rightly or wrongly she is responsible for putting herself in such a vulnerable position"
"pro turns up at the hotel, young guy loses his cherry then can't afford to pay,
Pro screams rape"
Plenty more of tits stuff here and won't bother to quote it all. This is the attitude that results in so few rape victims pressing forward with charges.
This is why rape is still so prevalent in the developed world today.
prejudicial comments against the alleged victims' credibility speaks volumes.
I had previously thought that many people on here were idiots but this goes beyond. There are so many genuinely disgusting human veings in this forum that I cannot be part of it any longer. Good bye PR

@Jmanngod... Yeah, we've seen this before in New Zealand as well, almost exactly the same in fact. I reckon a load of BS just as the accusations against the England players was. It seems to me she new exactly what she was doing and Mum and Dad got the umpty when they found out their daughter had been less than the perfect princess. I apologize to her in advance if I am wrong, but I don't think I am.

sounds dodgy as from the girls point. she better be aware that she is making a very serious allegation and if its not credible she should be made accountable but at the same time if the allegations are accurate the baby black should be heavily punished as per the law

What a load of nonsense.
Rape is one of the most awful crimes a human can be subjected to, but there are WAY too many cases of girls making false claims - either because they were drunk and out of control, or because they are attention-seekers (or both). I worked in nightclubs in London for nearly 9 years and can't tell you how many "rape" cases we had to deal with... getting the police in, area (toilets usually) closed off, going through the whole process, cctv, investigation...only to find out days later it was a false accusation.
If this girl went to the hotel out of her own will - and could find the hotel - I'm sure she wasn't THAT drunk... And what did she expect would happen there? If they met in a bar I'm sure they've done all the "socialising" they wanted there... so she wasn't going to the hotel to socialise!
If they find out this is a bogus accusation, I hope they sue her.

'knew exactly where to find the players' and 'The woman called her parents to fetch her on Saturday morning and her parents are insisting on opening a case of rape'. Sounds to me like someone wanted to have a few bevvies and hook up with some rugby boys to me and got caught out by mum and dad. Don't want to discount her claims completely but if it is the case then shame on her for putting a kid through that.

@Jmanngod, I'm sure we've seen this in every country in the world...just as much as we see drunk thugs being dominated by their "lessor head" and subsequently having sex with a half comatosed "consenting" woman...In SA there is an add for an alcoholic beverage that goes "it all comes together with a castle" but the leave out this part "it all falls apart with three castle..."

I have heard similar stories for years - girls sneak up to players' rooms and then stories emerge. England has a long record of it. I truly hope that there is no truth to the allegations, but am equally appalled that drunk girls can sneak into hotels and then basically hit the papers the next day.
The NZ boys deserve a bollocking regardless - they should not expose themselves to this kind of risk. Silly boys.

Hmmmmm, sounds like - pro turns up at the hotel, young guy loses his cherry then can't afford to pay, pro screams rape!! Classic tale!! If the police thought any other way, players would have been retained!!!

@Jmanngod: the other way of looking at it would be, we've seen this before from visiting NZ teams, haven't we? It's not the first time members of a NZ rugby team have been accused of rape. And while we're at it, why don't we roll out the absolute rap sheet racked up by NZ's junior rugby teams all across the world. Didn't they fracture a few skulls in Argentina a few years ago?

Where did you hear that she couldn't remember anything / wasn't sure? She may have been drunk, but I can't find that quote or anything similar in other articles...

Nope, that comment wasn't enough. If there's guilt let it be punished if there is none, let there be understanding.
(shouldn't have started with the comment too many ins and outs for this until the story is fully known)

Ugh, where to start? I honestly think I can just say I hope the investigation sheds all light on this and all parties are not scarred too heavily one way or the other.

First thing's first. I know a lot of people will come on here & jump to conclusions, remember this is an allegation not a guilty verdict.
This woman is a fan, had meet some of the players earlier, found out their hotel room number & then came to the hotel with the sole intention of going to the players room where she ended up getting drunk enough to blackout. Rightly or Wrongly, she is responsible for putting herself in such a vulnerable position.
She knows that she went into a room with 4 players but she can't indentify which player was involved as you revert to unconscious behaviour when you blackout.
I'm "assuming" she found some evidence of sexual contact when she woke up & I'm also "assuming" that the player involved has co-operated with police as they are now focussing on one player despite waiting on forensic results.
Rape is never ok, it is a very serious crime & I'm not going to speculate whether a crime was commited or not. I'm just providing some more background as this article doesn't give any information relating to the circumstances.

the story went on to say that she wasn't sure she had been raped as she "couldn't remember anything as she was so drunk".We've seen this before in SA haven't we. I certainly hope it isn't true though.
