Western Province second-row Wilhelm van der Sluys has joined Worcester Warriors on trial, the Premiership club announced on Thursday.

The 25-year-old, who came through the Western Province youth system and went on to make 25 appearances for the Cape Town-based side, joins up with the team immediately to provide extra competition in the second-row.

Alongside a host of future Springboks including Eben Etzebeth, Siya Kolisi and Frans Malherbe, he was part of the Western Province team that won the U19 Currie Cup 2010 Championship.

After being involved with both the Western Province U21s and the South Africa U20 touring squad to Argentina in 2011, Van der Sluys was part of the Western Province Vodacom Cup team which beat the Griquas to win the competition in 2012.

He was subsequently named captain of their U21s before earning selection for the seniors and also featured against Pumas in the 2015 Vodacom Cup final.

Head coach Carl Hogg said: "Wilhelm is a talented lock and we're looking forward to seeing what he has to offer."
