– Wood questions All Black mentality
– Dallaglio betting against England
Irish rugby legend Keith Wood has expressed his doubts that short-priced favourites New Zealand will win the forthcoming Rugby World Cup – suggesting it’s butterflies that could do for the All Blacks.
Speaking to Betfair the former world player of the year Wood is not convinced the champions can become the first country to successfully defend their crown, saying: “New Zealand always get a little bit nervous away from home. Of course, that’s a little rich coming from an Irishman – we haven’t won anything at all!”
Instead Wood is backing Australia whom he believes “always peak at the right time, they’re fully focused every time there is a World Cup and just seem to get it right. Even when they are not playing well they still eke out the victories to get to the final.”
Wood was chatting with former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio on the launch video for their new roles as ambassadors for Betfair. The rugby legends, both named this week in the Top 50 greatest World Cup players, will be offering expert opinion and predictions as well as their thoughts on the tournament throughout the World Cup.
Dallaglio Tips Southern Hemisphere Over Hosts
Whilst both men would dearly love their own nations to be lifting the Webb Ellis trophy, on his part Dallaglio surprisingly isn’t backing the host nation England with his money.
The England titan said: “My head says the winner will definitely come from either New Zealand or South Africa but looking at the odds of both those sides my money is going on South Africa.”
