Critical errors from Leceister Tigers was the difference in their 27-20 Premiership loss to Sale Sharks at AJ Bell Stadium on Sunday, believes boss Richard Cockerill%u200B.
Tigers remarkably came back after being down 17-6 to level the scores at 20-all with less than 20 minutes to go.
This loss meant that Cockerill's men drop to fifth position on the Premiership table with four rounds left.
Failure to capitalise on first half opportunities from Tigers allowed Sale to retain their unbeaten home record this season.
"There are five or six key moments in the match and you have to get them right," Cockerill told the Leceister Tigers website.
"If you get four or five of them wrong then it costs you."
The director of rugby has not made any excuses for Tigers' failure to take their chances and remains upbeat that they have a shot at finish in the top four.
"We have only ourselves to blame on that," he said.
"Today was an opportunity to put a gap between us and those teams around us and we have not taken it. We take the point and we're still well in the mix for the top four."
"We get over the tryline but Niki Goneva doesn't get the ball down; you let the ball bounce in defence and don't deal with it properly and they score.
"Those points add up in close games."
