Wilson a doubt for England

Newcastle Falcons tighthead prop Kieran Brookes has been called into the England Senior training group for the Six Nations as cover for David Wilson.

The Bath front-row forward, who has started the last ten Tests for Stuart Lancaster, is being treated for a neck problem and will not train on Friday.

Lancaster, however, is hopeful the condition will improve soon.

“We have brought Kieran in as cover at tight-head as a precaution because Davy has a small nerve impingement which should settle down,” he said.

Brookes, on the move to Northampton Saints in the off-season, will train with the squad at Twickenham Stadium on Friday as the squad continue their preparations for the Six Nations opener against Wales in Cardiff on Friday, 6 February.

Also joining the group is London Irish centre Shane Geraghty, last capped under Martin Johnson against New Zealand in 2009.

“I didn’t want to cause any further disruption to the Saxons so Shane’s addition is a good opportunity for him on the back of good form and helps us to train with appropriate numbers on Friday,” Lancaster added.
