Wing legend Shane Williams believes Wales are set to move George North to centre against France although he isn't thrilled by the prospect.

The Six Nations champions have lost Jonathan Davies, Owen Williams and Scott Williams to injury, leaving them short on number thirteens.

North looks to be the likely option for head coach Warren Gatland in their fixture with the French, however veteran Williams admits he would rather see him rampaging down the wing alongside Alex Cuthbert at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

“Physically George is a perfect outside centre,” he told walesonline.co.uk.

“But in saying that, is it something we have to do right now and in this tournament – and is that the answer to winning these games?

“I'm not sure. I enjoy watching George playing on the wing and looking for work.

“He certainly hasn't been used enough in the centre position coming off his wing and that's a shame really because we know that when you get players like Alex Cuthbert and George North working hard off their wing, they are very dangerous.

“Would I put him to centre at the moment? Perhaps with the injury crisis at the moment we have to and that's sometimes how it goes and that's sometimes how player's positions are selected.

“Injury permitting we are probably going to have to see George North playing 13.”
