Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal has revealed that talks took place with the agent of Sonny Bill Williams about bringing the All Black back to France last week.
WIlliams, 30, played for Toulon between 2008-2010 after switching from Rugby League, before returning to New Zealand ahead of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
His agent Khoder Nasser visited Toulon last week to meet with Boudjellal to discuss the possibility of Williams returning after this year's Olympics.
Williams' future, after his contract with the New Zealand Rugby expires at the end of the year, remains unclear, with a return to Rugby League a possibility, but based on Nasser's talks for Boudjellal he may well re-join the European champions for a second stint.
"Nothing was done," Boudjellal told Var Matin.
"I have no idea whether he is going to come or not and I can only confirm that the world champion has lots of choices.
"If it is just about the money, then he won't be coming to Toulon. But if it's a love story, he will find his way back to the RCT (Toulon).
"It is the choice of the player where he goes and to date there is nothing sorted."
