Although London Welsh scrum-half Piri Weepu won't leave the Premiership club immediately, he could be on his way to France at the end of the season.

That is the word from the former All Black's agent Bruce Sharrock in reaction to reports in the French media that Weepu would quit the Exiles soon to join Top 14 club La Rochelle.

London Welsh are currently rooted at the foot of the Premiership table with just one point from 13 matches and have lost 23 matches, across all competitions this season.

Sharrock confirmed that Weepu would stay with the Oxford-based club until the end of the season before deciding on his future.

"His contract allows him to move if they go down and we've been proactive in looking at options for that to happen," Sharrock told Fairfax Media.

"Nothing has been done yet, but ironically there has been interest out of France and La Rochelle, but they themselves are looking like going down."

Weepu joined the Exiles at the start of the season after they won promotion to the Premiership from the Championship.
