Webber rallies troops ahead of rematch

Sale hooker Rob Webber admitted their loss to Saracens was “a tough pill to swallow” as they fell 50-3 at Allianz Park on Saturday.

The result leaves the Sharks sitting bottom of Pool 3 and next up is another fixture against Saracens, this time at the AJ Bell Stadium.

“They beat us in every area of the game, we couldn’t get going and the scoreline reflects it,” Webber told Sky Sports after the defeat.

“It was a tough pill to swallow, sitting on the sidelines watching the final exchanges. We have come down and been thoroughly beaten so we’re very disappointed.”

He added: “We go down to 14 men against the best side in Europe then you are going to struggle and losing Josh Beaumont is tough. But credit to them, they made us make those errors. We will have to regroup massively ahead of the return fixture next weekend.

“There is one thing that can’t be questioned – it’s the spirit of the team, we’ve got a great bunch of lads, and I just want to reassure the Sale fans of that. We’ve got to be more clinical, we’ve got to get everyone on the same page, and be in the match for the full 80 minutes and not just the first 10 minutes.

“It seems we get a little knock and that throws us for the full game, we’ve got to stay in these fights ultimately that’s what we’re going to have to do to claw this season back. It’s down to us players, we’ll have to dig in and get ourselves out of it.”
