Joe Webber scored three of Waikato's four tries as they beat Counties Manukau 26-21 in Sunday's ITM Cup clash in Hamilton.

Sevens star Webber scored twice in the first 15 minutes as free-running Waikato scored 19 unanswered points in the first half with Chauncy Edwardson also touching down early on.

The Steelers rarely threatened to score before the interval but got on the scoreboard after 56 minutes as Ahsee Tuala went over, but Webber's hat-trick on the hour mark settled any doubt over the final result.

The visitors countered with two late tries in the space of five minutes when Waikato were reduced to 14 men following the sinbinning of prop Loni Uhila as Augustine Pulu came off the bench to cross twice.
