Fiji head coach John McKee was thrilled with his side’s ‘tremendously gutsy’ showing in the second half in their narrow loss to Wales.

Campese Ma’afu’s second yellow card on 52 minutes left Fiji facing an uphill struggle at the Millennium Stadium, but they put the pressure on their hosts in a scrappy encounter.

Crusaders star Nemani Nadolo scored all of Fiji’s 13 points including a late try in the second half, but their efforts were in vain.

McKee was disappointed with the performance before half-time, but vowed that Fiji would improve going forward.

“We probably didn’t impose ourselves as much as we would have liked in the first half,” said McKee.

“In the second half, it was a tremendously gutsy performance with 14 players, but we are disappointed at losing. We came here to try to win the game.

“Looking towards next year, there is a lot of improvement to come from this group of players.

“By Rugby World Cup, we will be stronger.”
