‘We are preparing for a big challenge’ – Azema

Clermont head coach Franck Azema has urged his charges to deliver a strong performance when they clash with Toulon this Sunday.

Clermont are at the top of tournament table but only by a whisker with La Rochelle on the same amount of points as them, so a win over Toulon is imperative to stay in the driving seat.

“We are preparing for a big challenge to start the year. This is a special period for the club. There is no need to tell our players about the challenge of Toulon. We know how determined they are and their strength at the moment, so we will assume that they will come to put a big performance in here!” Azema told epcrugby.com.

“It’s hard to look beyond this Toulon match when you see what happens. Toulon has the power to capture our attention, even if we have to keep in mind what lies ahead.

“The week was therefore very studious, applied. We are aware that we will have to be ready to deliver a very strong performance. To impose ourselves we will have to impose our rhythm and our game to a Toulon defense that has been very solid for a few weeks.

“The goal will be to get closer to a perfect match with fundamentals in place, binder, realism and discipline. All these things must be mastered on the playoffs. Victory will be at that price.”
