Wasps signing Halai ruptures ACL

Blues and soon-to-be Wasps winger Frank Halai ruptured his ACL playing club rugby in New Zealand on the weekend.

Halai didn't feature for the Blues against the Crusaders in their Super Rugby clash at Eden Park, turning out for Pukekohe.

The former Sevens star was an outside bet to make the Rugby World Cup squad for New Zealand, having won his only Test cap against Japan back in November 2013.

Halai's injury means he has played his last game for the Blues and will be a point of concern for Wasps ahead of his arrival in England for next season.

The 27-year-old now faces months on the sidelines and Wasps may not see one of their star signings in action until 2016.

Blues centre Francis Saili also suffered a concussion on the weekend to rule him out of the final game of the Super Rugby season against the Highlanders, before he joins Munster in the Pro12.
