Exeter captain Gareth Steenson is looking forward to a “cracking encounter” against Wasps when the two sides meet at Sandy Park on Sunday.
It’s back to Premiership rugby this weekend after the Anglo-Welsh Cup and it should be a superb game between Exeter and the league leaders.
Steenson is expecting a thrilling fixture for a packed out Sandy Park crowd as the Chiefs look to close the gap on the top two in the standings.
“I think everyone’s excited about the game and it will be great to be back at Sandy Park,” said the fly-half, speaking to Exeter’s official website.
“Aside from the result in Clermont, the last four weeks have been very good for us. Everyone has been able to have a run out, we’ve refreshed a few bodies that needed a rest, and we’ve picked up some very good results along the way.
“Wasps here, though, should be another cracking encounter. They are top of the table and we know whenever we play them, it’s always a great occasion.”
Wasps are currently three points clear of Saracens and a further seven ahead of Exeter and Steenson has been impressed by their form.
“We know they will come and play,” he added. “Even though they are missing one or two guys, we know they have multiple threats. They have strike runners across their team, a dangerous back three who can really hurt you, and plenty of quality ball carriers as well.
“That said, we don’t want to focus all our thoughts on them. First and foremost we have to make sure we get our act in order and keep things simple. We’ve talked all week about what we want to do, we’ve put a game plan in place, now we have to hammer it home because that gives us the best chance of winning.”
