Warburton set for comeback

Cardiff Blues could be boosted by the return of Wales flanker Sam Warburton for Friday's Challenge Cup game against Pau at the Arms Park.

Warburton suffered a fractured cheekbone against Leinster in a PRO12 match at the beginning of the month and subsequently had surgery.

But it is hoped he could feature this Friday as the Blues look to make it two from two in Europe following a bonus-point success at Bristol.

"At the moment we are on track with Warby but we will see how he responds to training at the start of the week and go from there," head coach Danny Wilson told the region's website after the victory.

"He has made good progress, he's itching to get back out there and there might be an opportunity for him if he passes all the tests he needs to."

Wilson was also happy with the comeback of Alex Cuthbert. The wing has had two groin injuries this season but returned at Ashton Gate.

He got on the scoresheet as the Blues kicked-off their campaign in style and will be looking to build on the performance against Pau.

Wilson added: "It's great to see Alex out there. He's had a bit of bad luck and it's good to see him get through a game.

"His work-rate is phenomenal, he covers so much ground and showed that against Bristol."
