The Waratahs have announced the signing of former international Sevens and Brumbies representative, Michael Wells for two seasons.

Having signed with the Brumbies for 2016, the 23-year-old loose forward has earned seven Super Rugby caps, after making his debut earlier this year in Round Four against the Stormers in South Africa.

Waratahs head coach, Daryl Gibson was proud to welcome a player of Wells’ quality to the squad.

“Michael is an excellent addition to our back row. He has earned valuable experience this year and will create further competition in our squad,” he told the Waratahs' official website.

“I spoke with Michael and he’s determined and keen to have a crack as he returns to his home state.

“He is the type of character and person we value in our team and will no doubt help add to the new energy of the team in 2017 and beyond.”

Wells previously spent time within Australia's Men’s Sevens programme, where he represented his country on the international Sevens circuit during the 2014/15 World Series, making his debut in the opening round on the Gold Coast.

Powerful and dynamic on the field, Wells also played for his country in the U20 squad that competed in the Junior World Championships in France in 2013 and in the Australian Schoolboys side in 2011.

A product of Sydney’s St Ignatius College, Wells has been a key member of Norths since 2014 and made a number of impressive performances for the North Harbour Rays in the inaugural Buildcorp NRC the same year.

This year he will once again link up with the newly titled, Sydney Rays in a potential formidable backrow combination with New South Wales Waratahs team-mate Jack Dempsey and Norths’ 2016 Ken Catchpole Medal winner, Will Miller.
