Wade scores six for Wasps

Date published: April 16 2016

Christian Wade equalled a Premiership record of six tries in a match as he led Wasps to a 54-35 win over Worcester at Sixways on Saturday.

The pacey England finisher drew level with Ryan Constable and in a spooky fact, the former Saracen also claimed his six on April 16, but in 2000.

It was a game that saw fourteen tries scored as Worcester also played their part, with that number the third most scored in a Premiership fixture.

Wade's tries were added to by Frank Halai and Alex Lozowski, while Francois Hougaard, Cooper Vuna, Andy Symons, GJ van Velze, Bryce Heem and Carl Kirwan secured Worcester a bonus point in defeat.

A poor performance from the tee for Warriors' Tom Heathcote made it difficult to keep in touch with Wasps. Ryan Mills opened the scoring with a penalty inside the first minute, before Wasps' Halai scored his ninth try of the campaign to give his side the lead. Elliot Daly added the extras.

Shortly after winger Wade added his name to the scoresheet on his 100th appearance for the club. Ruaridh Jackson converted the try, making it 14-3 inside quarter of an hour.

After charging down a clearance from Jackson, Hougaard carried over to narrow the deficit, before Heathcote added the conversion.

On 25 minutes Wade found space out wide before diving over in the corner, allowing Daly to add two more to the tally after slotting the conversion excellently from the touchline.

Shortly before the half hour mark, Wade secured Wasps' bonus point try as well as his hat-trick on his 100th Wasps appearance, although Daly failed to add the extras.

Vuna soon pegged the visitors back though, as a well worked move from the Warriors found the winger on the left win to touch down in style.

Heathcote missed the conversion, before Wade continued his impeccable performance to score a fourth try on 36 minutes, extending the lead to 33-15 with Daly's conversion.

Shortly after coming on, centre Symons broke through a number of Wasps tackles to reach for the line, but Heathcote once again failed to add the conversion.

Wade soon hit back with his fifth of the day, after intercepting a pass 40 metres out to sprint for the line, marking his 50th Premiership try, before Jackson slotted the conversion.

The English winger soon had his second hat-trick of the day, as he found a way through the porous Worcester defence to score his sixth try. Jackson added the conversion, but shortly after the restart a try from van Velze ensure the heavy scoring continued, with Heathcote once again dragging his kick wide.

With 15 minutes remaining, the breathless rugby continued with Heem carrying over for the 11th try of the game, before Lozowski hit back with Wasps' eighth try, which he converted himself.

Flanker Kirwan then found a way through with four minutes left on the clock, allowing Ryan Lamb a chance to open his account after replacing Heathcote, but he dragged his attempt wide.
