The reign of Eddie Jones as England boss officially began on Tuesday, despite the new head coach being left behind in Japan.
Jones is understood to be still working through the paperwork required for his visa application back in Japan.
He spent time in Los Angeles for an event with World Rugby following his introductory press conference at Twickenham on November 20 and has since been back in Japan preparing for his move to London.
Despite not having landed in the country, Jones is understood to have initiated the first steps regarding the addition of former England captain Steve Borthwick to his coaching staff.
Borthwick worked as the Japan forwards coach under Jones during their successful Rugby World Cup campaign earlier this year, but recently agreed to join Championship club Bristol.
Jones must also decide whether to retain the services of England's current three assistant coaches – Graham Rowntree, Andy Farrell and Mike Catt – seven weeks away from the start of the 2016 Six Nations.
