Date published: February 6 2017

A documentary of South Africa rugby legend Joost van der Westhuizen, focusing on his Test career on the field and his health struggles off it.

The Springbok played the first of his 89 Tests on November 6, 1993 against Argentina in Buenos Aires. His last match came on November 8, 2003 against New Zealand in Melbourne at his third Rugby World Cup tournament.

He scored 56 tries in total for the Boks, which was finally overtaken by Bryan Habana in 2014. He also captained South Africa in ten Tests.

Van der Westhuizen was diagnosed as suffering from MND in 2011. Despite fighting this debilitating disease, he was involved in charity work across South Africa and outside the borders for fellow sufferers up until his death.

This video reveals his admirable work, both as a player and for charity.
