The Cheetahs have been struck by a blow ahead of their Super Rugby clash with the Blues after centre Francois Venter was sent home injured.

Venter is struggling with a shoulder problem and has joined prop Coenie Oosthuizen (neck) in departing their Australasian tour prematurely.

“It's bad to lose Francois. He is our vice-captain and it's a huge setback,” head coach Naka Drotské told the Volksblad website on Tuesday.

Drotské has called in Griquas fly-half Francois Brummer to his touring squad, with a decision on who will wear number twelve yet to be made.
