Alun Wyn Jones backs Wales to build on November

Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones believes his side are genuine contenders for the Rugby World Cup crown in Japan this year due to their squad depth.

The Welsh, who enjoyed an unbeaten November campaign and have been playing superb rugby, are building nicely for a decent push for glory.

And experienced second-row Jones is confident they can challenge as he expects confidence to further grow once players return from injury.

“You look at the strength in depth we’ve got in certain areas whether it be wing, back-row, second-row,” he said when speaking to the WRU.

“The number of players to come back in the back-row in particular who have been injured is really exciting.

“There’s a tremendous appetite for success throughout the squad and we are very keen to build on our autumn form. Every country wants to win the World Cup but it comes down to the players we’ve got. Look at the players we’ve got in our squad, although form and fitness will be key.”

Wales are drawn in Pool D of the World Cup alongside Australia, Georgia, Fiji and Uruguay.
