Uruguay coach Pablo Lemoine has credited his team’s extra level of desire as the key for their qualification win over Russia in Montevideo.

The 37-28 win in the Uruguayan capital sparked great scenes of celebration in the stands and on the pitch, as the South Americans qualified for their first Rugby World Cup since 2003.

Forced to come from behind against Russia, who featured in the 2011 tournament, Lemoine described the success as a huge part of the country’s rugby history.

“We qualified for the Rugby World Cup because we wanted it more,” said Lemoine.

“We deserve it for all the hard work we put in in the last four years and because on the day we managed to understand what was required to win.

“This is a huge day in our rugby history and one that we must enjoy knowing that from now on the hard work will be with a clear goal, to enjoy the World Cup.”
