Ulster lock Dan Tuohy has signed for Bristol and will make the switch to the Premiership immediately.

Tuohy has played 11 Tests for Ireland, but was born in Bristol. He made 136 appearances for Ulster since joining them in 2009.

“We’re pleased to welcome Dan into the fold – he’s a formidable presence in the second row and an experienced lineout operator,” Acting Head Coach Mark Tainton told bristolrugby.co.uk.

“I know Dan well from his time in the Ireland international set-up. His knowledge of the game at the highest level, as well as his leadership skills, will be of significant benefit to the team.”

Tuohy added: “When speaking to Mark [Tainton] it was clear to see the vision he had for the club, I’m very excited to have the opportunity to add something to the group.

“Being born in Bristol, and having played for Weston-Super-Mare, Gloucester and Exeter, I know what Bristol Rugby is all about and what it means to the passionate supporters.

“I want to thank Ulster and the IRFU for the past seven and a half years and wish them the very best in the future. My attention now turns to helping Bristol retain their place in the Premiership.”
