Toulouse scrum-half Jean-Marc Doussain and Montpellier back Marvin O'Connor were both attacked outside a Montpellier nightclub earlier this month.
Dépêche du Midi report that while O'Connor was able to get away, Doussain was beaten up by a group of a dozen attackers who stole his laptop and watch.
Doussain told local police that he could not remember the details of the incident as a result of the attack.
The France international scrum-half has since recovered his phone after it was found by police, with the investigation into identifying the attackers still ongoing.
Doussain was back in training with Toulouse on Monday. He was last capped by France during the 2016 Six Nations against Ireland.
