First-half tries from Louis Picamoles and Gael Fickou set Toulouse up for a 22-11 victory over Clermont in their Top 14 meeting on Sunday.

Clermont crucially will head home without even a losing bonus point but stay six points clear at the top ahead of Toulon facing Montpellier.

Toulouse meanwhile have edged closer to sealing a fifth-place finish in the table, three points behind Toulon, Montpellier and Racing 92.

Brock James opened the scoring and following number eight Camille Gerondea's try Clermont were out to an 8-0 start at Stade Ernest Wallon.

Thirteen quick-fire points from Toulouse however swung the contest in their favour, as efforts from Picamoles and Fickou made the score 13-8.

Fly-half James did strike back with three points before the end of the half, which meant it was just a two-point ball game at the turnaround.

Sebastien Bezy extended that back to five points seven minutes after the break and when Florian Fritz kicked a penalty, it was now 19-11.

And Toulouse would go on to secure victory in the final play as their fourth kicker, Jean-Marc Doussain, sealed the four points for his side.
