Toulouse returned to the victory trail when they claimed a deserved 30-12 victory over Brive at Stade Ernest Wallon on Sunday.
The home side dominated for large periods, were full value for their triumph and eventually outscored their visitors by five tries to two with Gael Fickou leading the charge with a brace of tries.
It was the visitors who made the brighter start though and after a sustained period of pressure, inside Toulouse’s 22, Said Hireche barged over in the corner for the opening points in the fourth minute.
The rest of the half saw Toulouse stepping up a few gears on attack and they raced into a 17-5 lead at half-time after Francois Cros, Semi Kunatani and Fickou all crossed for tries.
Five minutes in to the second half, Sebastien Bezy kicked a penalty and when Fickou scored his second try two minutes later, Toulouse were cruising as they held a comfortable 25-5 lead.
The next 25 minutes was a slugfest as both sides tried to gain the ascendancy and we had to wait until the 70th minute for the next points which came courtesy of a Sevenaia Galala try.
Gaetan Germain added the extras which gave some respectability to the score but Brive suffered another setback in the 74th minute when William Whetton was yellow carded for an illegal tackle.
Toulouse made full use of their numerical advantage and secured victory when Arthur Bonneval went over for their fifth try in the 76th minute.
