Bordeaux-Bègles moved up to fifth place in the Top 14 standings after they battled past Toulon, winning 12-9 at Stade des Alpes on Sunday.

In a tight encounter, the home side went in at half-time leading 9-6 after three Simon Hickey penalties edged two from Jonathan Pelissie.

Toulon, who were missing Maxime Mermoz and Guilhem Guirado, decided to leave Steffon Armitage and Drew Mitchell on the bench but both were brought on by the hour mark, after Pelissie and Hickey had traded penalties for 12-12 as the match went down to the wire.

And it was to be Bordeaux who struck the final blow as scrum-half Baptiste Serin landed a 78th minute penalty to get the win, with the losing bonus-point leaving Toulon two points behind Racing 92 and Toulouse.
