Toulon will have to cope without two of their most important players as Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe and Matt Giteau face time out.

The Argentina back row came off barely a minute into Toulon’s win at Ulster with a hamstring problem and will be absent long-term according to coach Bernard Laporte.

It’s not clear how long exactly he will be missing, but Laporte explained that his hamstrings had gone in the game at Ravenhill and it will likely be a few months before he returns.

Just as concerning is the loss of Giteau, who limped off in the first half of the clash. The Australian has an adductor problem and will be out for a month.

It’s a huge blow for Toulon, who rely on Giteau more than any other player but it means James O’Connor will now have to step up in his absence since Fred Michalak is also a long-term casualty. There are no other fly-halves in the Toulon squad as they await a playing licence for medical joker Nicolas Sanchez.

Toulon have won all seven games Giteau has started this season, while winning just one of their four other games.
