Saracens have confirmed that England international centre Joel Tomkins has been released from his contract, so he may make a return to rugby league.
The powerful back has agreed terms with Wigan, the club he left two years ago to join Saracens.
“Joel's spell in rugby union can only be described as a great success. He worked hard to understand a new code, produced many fine performances for Saracens and was duly rewarded by selection to play for England in the Autumn internationals last season. His achievement within two years has been remarkable,” said director of rugby Mark McCall.
“We are extremely disappointed to see him leave but Joel has simply reached a decision that he is an even better rugby league player. We wish him and Nicola well in the future.”
