Leicester Tigers fly-half Freddie Burns is set to be sidelined for the remainder of the season after sustaining an ankle injury against Racing 92.

Despite the looming lengthy lay-off of his playmaker, Tigers' director of rugby Richard Cockerill is upbeat about midfielder Manu Tuilagi's health.

The former Gloucester player, who picked up the injury in Tigers 19-16 Champions Cup semi-final loss to Racing on Sunday, may have to undergo surgery on his ankle.

"Manu tweaked his knee and he'll be rested this weekend," Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester.

"He's fine, he's got a mild tweak of his medial ligament but he'll come back into the squad well before the end of the season."
