It is that time of the week when we put our head on the chopping block with Planet Rugby’s weekend predictions.
The weekend of calculators and watching several fixtures across the Champions Cup’s many pools has arrived, with several sides dreaming of the last eight.
Welsh and Italian representation in the knockout stages will not be happening, while Leinster and Glasgow Warriors fly their nation’s flags respectively in the aim of avoiding an Anglo-French monopoly.
We can’t wait, and here’s some odds from Paddy Power to have in mind this weekend.
The spot at the top of Pool 2 is on the line when Leinster visit Coventry this weekend, with Wasps looking to remain unbeaten at their new ground where they’ve been exceptional to date.
Wasps winning by 13 points or more at 5/1 shouldn’t be ignored, even if the absence of Alapati Leiua in midfield will be sorely felt. Look out for a Leinster lead at the break before Wasps win at 13/2, with little available either way in terms of the handicap.
Both teams have good odds of winning by 6-10 points, 4/1 and 5/1 respectively for Wasps and Leinster. Christian Wade is the favourite for first try scorer at 17/2 and this one will go down to the wire. Wasps by 3.
Clermont might no longer have as impressive an unbeaten record at home as they used to, but that doesn’t stop the Stade Marcel Michelin from being a horrible place for away teams to visit.
Saracens know this, even with that 46-6 thrashing in last year’s European semi-final over the same opponents under their belts. Their 11/5 odds feel about right.
Look out for Saracens leading at half-time before Clermont come through for the win at 13/2, while Saracens are also 15/8 to score the first try. No yellow card is at 17/10 while the chance of a red card are 18/1. Home advantage should tell, Clermont by 7.
