15 Nick Abendanon (Clermont) – The former Bath man appears to be loving life in France and if this performance is anything to go by, teaming up with the Wesley Fofana, Napolioni Nalaga and Noa Nakaitaci is clearly working for him. He scored a well-taken try while being assured at the back with well over 100 metres racked up. Mike Brown and Leigh Halfpenny earn mentions for their showings.

14 Napolioni Nalaga (Clermont) – Speaking of this Fijian finisher, who we move across to the right wing, he was lethal when given chances to run against Sale. Nalaga’s power, step and speed saw him claim a couple for Clermont and see off Toulon’s try-scoring Delon Armitage here.

13 Mathieu Bastareaud (Toulon) – He might not be everyone’s cup of tea but who could argue that Bastareaud’s directness played a key role in getting Toulon going forward.
