Taute set for Stormers return

Stormers utility back Jaco Taute is ready for action after recovering from a knee injury and could feature against the Brumbies on Saturday.

That was the word from Stormers coach Allister Coetzee who said he wants Taute to regain match fitness for Western Province in the Vodacom Cup but injuries could force an earlier return for the 24-year-old Springbok at Super Rugby level.

Taute has been struggling with a knee injury since the start of the season and has has only been back in training for one week.

But with Juan de Jongh battling to overcome a hip pointer injury sustained in the defeat to the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday, Taute could make a quicker than expected return for the Stormers.

“Giving him forty minutes in the Vodacom Cup is the initial plan, but with our injuries at present we could slot him into the team against a quality Brumbies outfit," Coetzee told the Stormers' official website.

"It’s a decision we will still have to make and one we will make before Thursday’s team announcement.”
