Bulls captain Adriaan Strauss wants to make Loftus Versfeld a home fortress again as they prepare to host the Sharks on Friday.

The Bulls were a force to be reckoned with on home turf during their run of dominance in Super Rugby and the Springbok hooker wants the three-time champions to regain that edge.

“Loftus is a very special place for the Bulls, but you don’t inherit respect, you have to earn it,” Strauss told Netwerk24.

“Our predecessors from a few seasons ago commanded respect from visiting teams and it’s something we want to establish again.”

The 30-year-old is expecting a battle at Loftus following the Durban side's victory over the Stormers at Newlands last week, and knows that they will be especially challenged up front.

“The Sharks were very physical against the Stormers and their play at the set pieces is impressive," he added.

"Their driving maul is also very good and we realise how big a challenge we are facing.”
