Although the Stormers made a humiliating exit from Super Rugby, their director of rugby Gert Smal believes the team is on the right track.
Despite winning the South African Conference, the Stormers suffered a 39-19 defeat to the Brumbies at Newlands in Cape Town with the men from Canberra outscoring their hosts by six tries to one.
But despite that result, Smal believes the Stormers have made strides in 2015.
“The Stormers were widely written off before this year’s Super Rugby tournament, but eventually rose above the other South African teams," he told Netwerk24.
"However, it’s important that we think bigger.
“We’re already busy with the process of looking at how we can improve so we can eventually win the Super Rugby competition.
“We have heaps of players with talent to take us forward. If need be, then we’ll have a look at strengthening certain positions (with outside signings).
“We’ve also worked hard behind the scenes these last few months to get our structures at schools level as strong as possible.”
Smal identified tactical kicking, line-outs and defence as facets of play where the Stormers need to improve.
