Western Province’s director of rugby Gert Smal has revealed that talks are taking place to keep Allister Coetzee and other coaches.
Coetzee’s deal with the union runs out at the end of this year but is reportedly garnering interest from Japan, namely from the Kobe Kobelco Steelers.
The Steelers are looking for a new director of rugby following Gary Gold’s exit to join the Sharks.
Other coaches being linked with moves away from Western Province include John Dobson and Dawie Snyman.
“We’re looking at a structure in which we can stimulate the coaches to enhance their development. I’d like to have the negotiations sorted by the end of the month,” Smal told Netwerk24.
“We can’t control the fact that there is outside interest in them. (But) we’d like to create an environment where they feel they can develop.
“They must also want to be at WP. If it’s merely about money, then it’s another story.”
