The Reds will be without Wallaby duo Will Genia and James Horwill when they face the Waratahs on Saturday.
The duo picked up injuries during Australia's recent series against the British and Irish Lions, with Genia struggling with a knee injury and Horwill laid low by a calf problem.
With the Super Rugby play-offs on the horizon, the decision has been taken to give the pair some much needed rest and a chance to recuperate fully.
“I feel good. Obviously it'd be better not to have a calf injury, but I was hoping to play this week,” said Horwill.
“Playing against NSW for Queensland – it's a big deal.
“It's disappointing, but the plan is to be right next week to take on whoever we face in the finals.”
