Chiefs assistant coach Wayne Smith will remain with the Hamilton-based franchise for the 2015 Super Rugby season.

Chiefs assistant coach Wayne Smith will remain with the Hamilton-based franchise for the 2015 Super Rugby season.

Earlier this year, Chiefs coach Dave Rennie indicated that the New Zealand Rugby Union were keen to acquire Smith’s services for the All Blacks in 2015.

But Rennie said Smith – who was part of the All Blacks coaching staff when they won the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand – will continue in his role at the Chiefs during next year’s Super Rugby campaign.

“He’s away in Italy at the moment so we’ll talk him through things, but he’ll be involved in some capacity,” he told New Zealand’s Newstalk ZB radio station.

“We’ve just got to sort through that.”
