The Sharks’ CEO John Smit is delighted that Toulon have agreed to play the Durban-based franchise in a North vs South friendly.

Two time Heineken Cup champions Toulon accepted the challenge presented to them by Smit and the date for this clash has been set for Thursday, 5 February 2015 at the Stade Mayol in Toulon.

“We believe that in order to be the best you need to play the best,” Smit told The Sharks’ official website.

“This match against the best European Rugby Club in recent history marks an ideal opportunity to fine tune our preparation for an important Super Rugby season ahead.

“I have huge respect for Toulon and their success in recent years is a clear indication of the brand of rugby they play as well as their work ethic and the pride and passion they have for their club and the game at large.

“It’s always good to play against, learn and share ideas with the best teams around and we are delighted that Toulon has accepted the challenge.

“We look forward to an epic battle on the field of play and a long-term partnership off it.”
