Reds captain James Slipper has praised departing legends Will Genia and James Horwill ahead of their final home game.

Genia and Horwill's outstanding form were at the heart of the Reds 2011 title success in Super Rugby.

Horwill is heading to the Premiership to join Harlequins while Genia will join Stade Français in the Top 14, with Slipper eager to send them out on a high in Saturday's game with the Chiefs.

"They have both played over 100 caps for their state – that's a remarkable achievement in any sport," Slipper told AAP.

"They have definitely left the club in better hands from when they started. Both play with a lot of pride and put their heats on their sleeves.

"It would be nice to send them out winners."

Slipper also credited Horwill for helping him adjust to the role of captain this year.

"I have been lucky enough to go through this year with James still at the club. It's been great to learn from someone so experienced and well respected."
