Leicester have suffered a double blow after captain Ed Slater was ruled out for up to eight weeks while wing Niall Morris' season is over.

Morris needs a second operation after he suffered a broken ankle in last season's Premiership semi-final. The surgery will be on his foot.

Meanwhile, second-row Slater injured his knee against Saracens last weekend, with director of rugby Richard Cockerill offering an update.

"Ed has a medial ligament injury on the inside of his right knee so he will be out for six to eight weeks," he told the Leicester Mercury.

"It's not horrifically bad and is fairly straightforward.

"He was in good form and was keen to play over the weekend. If I knew he was going to get injured, I would not have played him.

"Niall's ankle is fully healed but he has had a problem with his foot and has unfortunately, has had to go under the knife again to rectify that. He will probably need three to four months recovery time because there have been complications with that. That's hugely disappointing for him."
