Slater ruled out after bagel injury

Leicester's injury list has been given an unusual addition after second row Ed Slater was ruled out with a hand injury.

Director of rugby Richard Cockerill revealed to the Leicester Mercury that Slater had required multiple stitches after slicing his hand trying to cut a frozen bagel.

Along with having to face some mericless jokes from his Tigers team-mates, Slater is now also out of this weekend's Premiership clash against Newcastle Falcons on Friday.

Cockerill tried to see the funny side as Leicester prepare to try and bounce back following last weekend's 3-10 loss at home to Sale Sharks.

"Ed Slater is still not fit this week. He lacerated his hand making breakfast in the morning last weekend," he told the Leicester Mercury.

"The moral of the story is, don't take a really sharp knife and try and cut a frozen bagel!

"The knife slips off the side of it, cuts your hand and you have 14 stitches and you can't play. He is disappointed with himself. He won't be making breakfast any more."
